TO RECEIVE THE REAL IMPACT, CONCERNING THESE GICLEE PRINT FINE ART MENUS OF THE S.S. MATSONIA CRUISE SHIP FROM 1938, YOU HAVE TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ ALL ABOUT IT... YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED WITH THE ROLE THAT THIS FINE SHIP HAS PLAYED WITH THE GROWTH OF AMERICA AND HER SERVICE DURING WWII...FRED MACINTOSH IS THE VERY CREATIVE AND TALENTED ARTIST WHO CREATED THESE FINE PIECES OF ART FOR THE SHIP LINE MENUS... THIS SHIP USED TO MAKE THE SAIL BETWEEN HAWAII AND MAINLAND AMERICA OVER MANY YEARS... IN FACT WHEN YOU READ ABOUT THIS SHIPS MANY TRANSFORMATIONS YOU WILL LEARN THAT IT WAS ALWAYS A BLACK SHIP BUT, WHEN IT BEGAN TO SAIL TO HAWAII AND OTHER TROPICAL LOCATIONS THE COMPANY PAINTED IT ALL WHITE TO FIT IN....
I FOUND THESE WONDERFUL PIECES OF ART IN A LOCKED CLOSET OF A HOME SCHEDULED FOR DEMOLISION... ONE OF THEM IS COMPLETE AND TOGETHER BEHIND GLASS IN ITS ORIGINAL FRAME FROM HUDSON'S OF DETROIT 1938... FROM THAT DAY IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SEALED... THE OTHER SISTER PIECE IS ALSO IN NICE CONDITION BUT, IT HAS HAD ITS BACKING TAKEN OFF AND REMOVED FROM ITS ORIGINAL FRAME (ORIGINAL FRAME IS THERE)... THE GLASS IS MISSING BUT, THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL FRAMING MATERIAL, MATTING, INCLUDING THE LABEL FROM HUDSONS DETROIT, IS THERE... ALL THAT NEEDS REPLACING IS A LIKE PIECE OF GLASS AND THE FINISH BROWN PAPER BACKING... YOU CAN THEN REINSTALL THE ORIGINAL ABOVE MENTIONED 1938 HUDSON'S DETROIT LABEL TO THE BACKING...
IN A WAY IT IS A GOOD THING THAT WE ARE ABLE TO OPEN AND TO SEE THE ORIGINAL MENU AS YOU CAN NOT GO ANYWHERE WHERE THESE MIGHT BE FOR SALE AND SEE THE ACTUAL MENU EXCEPT RIGHT HERE... VERY INTERESTING....
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL PIECES OF ART FROM THE MAGICAL DAYS OF CRUISING TO HAWAII AND OTHER TROPICAL LOCATIONS..
THEY ARE ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WHEN YOU TOUCH THEM YOU FEEL THE HISTORY, THE TALENT OF THE ARTIST PUTTING ON CANVAS WHAT HE WAS THINKING AT THAT VERY MOMENT... ... NICE STUFF...
