A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!! This piece is all about craftsmanship. The salmon red and beige weave pattern is made up of rolled, strands of heavy paper - probably Mulberry Paper. The strands are secured by small nails with irregular heads. Four pencil-width lengths of bamboo form the frame of the lid and the box. At corners it looks like they were steamed to fit around corners. The lid latch and hardware are beautiful. A metal loop is fitted into the facing bamboo. A matchstick size bent bamboo is threaded through the metal loop. A similar bent bamboo catch completes the closing system. The lovely handiwork continues inside. Two colored twisted cords provide the hinge for the lid and box. Heavily textured scalloped material lines the top box edges. Inside a wonderful crimson red lining greets the eye. The box is lined with it. The interior of the lid has a pretty tufted design with covered teeny-tiny buttons. Perfect for your needles!Dimensions: 7 1/3 inches square. 4 1/4 inches high.
Condition: Very Good. The exterior material is rarely so pristine. These are delicate little objects and time can be hard on them. There is a small amount of handling. There is a small hole in the fabric in the box bottom. Some dust buildup in crevasses inside box. The strands are not completely uniform in color - mainly the natural colored strands.
